DESFire EV3 is NXP's current-generation secure card IC. Against Classic 4K, it provides
the complete modern NFC security stack: AES-128, proximity check, transaction MAC, SDM,
and SCP03 key management.

MIFARE Classic 4K: 4,096 bytes, Crypto-1 (broken), ISO 14443-3A.


MIFARE DESFire EV3: AES-128, Proximity Check, Transaction MAC, SDM (Secure Dynamic
Messaging), SFI (Short File Identifier), SCP03, 2–32 KB. EV3 uniquely supports SDM,
enabling NDEF URLs with embedded per-tap cryptographic counters verifiable by a backend
server — the same capability that makes NTAG 424 DNA powerful, applied to a full ISO
14443-4 card platform.
