Broadcom's Topaz chips are the reference implementation for NFC Forum Type 1 tags, the original NFC tag specification. While largely superseded by Type 2 and Type 4 tags in modern deployments, Topaz remains significant for backward compatibility testing and NFC standard conformance validation.
